The nineteen sories in this collection focus on the magical lore of African-American women. They range from light-hearted trickster tales to tales of enchanted worlds. "Catskinella " is a Cinderella tale of a poor girl whose father wants her to marry a woodsman. She does not like the man and asks for help from her godmother. On her wedding day she runs away in her catskin dress, taking the ring with her. She finds work in the castle and puts the ring in a cake for the prince. When he finds the ring he is determined to find its owner and make her his bride.

ACTIVITY:

Cinderella tales come from every time and culture in the world. Think of a time or place to set your Cinderella tale. Be sure that every word you add in place of the numbers in the story reflects the place, culture or historical era you are writing about. You will need to research the time or place before writing.
